Heat for a little while on a high flame. — Amy Spies
I want to share a cookbook idea that a college friend’s daughter is developing. It’s a cookbook that honors mothers. Cooking is definitely one of those mother-daughter bonding things. Obviously, since from the get-go, mothers are nurturing their children–feeding them literally from the womb, making their lunches, stocking their refrigerators. My own mother used her mother’s ‘home-made’ and often insanely dysfunctional cookbook (which instructions like ‘heat for a little awhile on a high flame’) that had been handed down from my grandmother’s mother. My sister and I both have one volume of it. My daughter has already claimed it as hers in the future. I know mothers who cook over the phone with their now-adult daughters, mothers and daughter who find cooking together almost zen-like in its comforting ritual nature.
Anyway, I appreciate the sentiment of honoring mothers so here is the link to learn more about how to submit your own recipes for her book.
